Introduction
Drugs and the cosmetic license is mandatory to do business. In 1940 the Drugs and Cosmetics Act is made which consist of all the laws of drugs and cosmetics selling. In 1964, the act also considered ayurvedic and medicine. The type of drug license depends upon the type of business. If some businesses have expanded into many states, every state drug license has to be obtained by the owner.
Once the drug license is issued the business must ensure that all the terms and conditions are followed by them as given in the law. All the records must be maintained so that changes made in the business activities can be easily tracked by the licensing authorities.
Types of Drug License
Drug license is classified in the following types:
- 1.Manufacturing drug license: This license is issued by the particular state government for the ayurvedic, allopathic, drugs, and cosmetic business dealers as specified by the Drugs and Cosmetic act, 1940.
- 2.Sales drug license: This license is issued to businesses that are involved in exporting wholesale and retail drugs in India.
- 3.Wholesale drug license: For getting the wholesale drug license the person should have the following minimum qualification:

- 5. Drug or pharmaceutical diploma degree
- 6. This license is issued by a central drug standard control organization.
- 7.Retail drug license: This license is issued by the state pharmacy council to the retailers engaged in the business of pharmaceuticals.
- 8.Import drug license: This license should be obtained by the business involved in importing drugs and cosmetics in India.
- 9.Loan drug license: The drug manufacturers who do not own the land but willing to manufacture drugs by there own brand name on another land will be issued with this license.
- 10.Multidrug license: This license acquired by the person who has his multi-business stores in different states. The type of license depends on the manner of the business sale
Registration Procedure
Step 1: Fill the drug license form and provide all the details of your business.

- 1.Premise Area: The pharmaceutical shops must have areas more than 10 square meters and wholesales shops along with retailing business must have are more than 15 square meters.
- 2.Storage: The shops must have proper cooling refrigerators to keep the drugs and vaccines that require cool temperatures for storing.
- 3.Expert staff: The staff of the shop must know about all the drugs and cosmetics available at the shop.
Steps for Getting the Drug License
Drug licenses can be issued directly by the government by filing the Drug application. The process will take 30-40 working days to get completed. Following are the steps to obtain the drug license online:
- Step 1: The applicant has to obtain user id by giving documents and details of the firm by giving the requesting letter.
- Step 2: Scanned documents must be uploaded using the ID and Password obtained at the specific sections in the form. Send a copy of the application to the licensing authority. If additional documents will be required the licensing authority may ask for it.
- Step 3: After that, you need to visit the government office to track your application. If your application gets rejected because of incomplete information than the fees once paid will be taken by the government.
- Step 4: your application will take 30-40 days for completing your process and issuing the license.
