Introduction
In India, the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) provides a license to all Food Business Operators (FBO). All the rules and regulations that come under FSSAI must be followed by all FBOs for proper control of food quality.
FBO requires either FSSAI license or FSSAI registration according to their business and managing their food products. The FBO will get 14 digits number that has to be printed in all the food products made by the particular firm.
FSSAI registration ensures that the food quality goes under a security check and it is mainly is food security certificate circulated by Food Authority. All kinds of food manufacture, grocery shops, restaurants, importers and exporters, etc. are eligible for getting an FSSAI certificate.
Who Needs FSSAI Registration
- 1. Food business operators like a distributor, wholesaler, supplier, retailer, hawkers, canteen, Dhaba, restaurants, clubs, and others which have a turnover of their business less than Rs. 12 lacs, more than 20 crores, or between Rs. 12 lacs and Rs. 20 crores.
- 2. Small producers who manufacture their products itself.
- 3. A stall selling food products.
- 4. Industries associated with food products.
- 5. Dairy units involved in collection, handling, chilling of milk, having a capacity of fewer than 500 liters on daily basis.
- 6. A business that is involved in making food in religious places.
- 7. Proprietary foods
- 8. Vegetable oil production and processing units which have turnover within Rs. 12 lacs to Rs. 20 crores yearly.
- 9. Hotels with 4 or 5-star ratings or less or more ratings.
- 10. Caterers working with central government-related agencies like airports, railways, defense,seaport, etc.
- 11. All food processing units excluding grains, pulse, and cereals mills and including re-packers with over 2 metric tones per day.
- 12. Exporters with less than or more than 50000 metric tones yearly.
- 13. Importers of food additives and ingredients
Types of FSSAI License You Can Take
Food businesses are required to apply for any of the Food licenses according to their turnover, scale of business, and type of activity.
Following are the types of FSSAI license:
1. FSSAI Basic Registration: This type of license is for small business or startup who have their annual turnover less than Rs. 12 lacs. Basic registration of FSSAI can be upgraded based on the graph productivity of your business.
2. FSSAI State License: The state license is for medium-sized food businesses that have their annual turnover within 12 lacs and 20 crores. This license can also be upgraded to a central license based on the productivity graph of the business.
3. FSSAI Central license: The central license is for large scale food businesses that have their yearly turnover of more than 20 crores. It is also applicable in case you supply food to government offices or export products.

Procedure of Online Registration of FSSAI
- 1. Fill the FSSAI form and your business details and about your food.
- 2. Email the required documents.
- 3. After that, your FSSAI form A and Form B will be created in 2 working days.
- 4. Your application and other declaration will be filed to the Local FBO by our CS or CA in 10 working days.
- 5. Your FSSAI license will be issued via email by the Food Authority of India in the next two working days.

Steps for Getting the FSSAI Certificate
- 1. Fill FSSAI licensing registration form A on the FSSAI website and make the payment for FSSAI
- 2. application at the FBO nearby your locality.
- 3. As the payment confirmation is shown in your FSSAI account, you need to file Form B with the
- 4. Some multiple declarations and resolutions need to be filed with
- 5. your application.
- 6. You will then need to contact with the government department for an update on your
- 7. The government may send back your application for edits if you fail to respond
- 8. within 15 days of the application, then your application will be rejected.
- 9. The government department will take 45 to 60 working days to completely recheck your
